PROOF
written by David Auburn
Proof, written by David Auburn, centers around Catherine, a young woman who finds herself coping with the loss of her brilliant but unstable father, Robert, on the eve of her 25th birthday. She is also forced to face questions surrounding her own genius and mental instability as her estranged sister Claire swoops in from New York to tidy up the house and Catherine. Hal, her father's former student, searches for undiscovered valuable work in the pages of the 103 notebooks Robert filled.
Winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play, Proof explores the mysteries of love, family, brilliance and sanity. Auburn's play turns highbrow mathematics into a suspenseful back porch drama where "all four [characters] - whether loving, hating, encouraging or impeding one another- are alive, complex, funny, human" (John Simon, New York).
